Lucy Sackbauer has had quite the year. The Vail native who now lives in Ketchum Idaho, spent last winter travelling and filming for MSP’s, “HUCK YEAH!”. It’s her first appearance in a major ski film and she was just getting into her groove when Covid-19 arrived and shut things down. Her life and plans as pro skier instantly changed so Lucy quickly transitioned to her alter ego, a front line ER Nurse.
When she was 12, Lucy went to see her first Warren Miller film. Looking up at the screen that day, she decided that’s exactly what she wanted to do with her life. When she was just a little older, she watched a lot of Grey’s Anatomy and decided, that too, is what she wanted to do with her life. One would think these to be competing aspirations but Lucy has proven that they can complement each other in creating her dream life.
We talk more about her ski journey including learning to telemark in leather boots and living in several different ski cities before settling in Idaho. Lucy also shares her own front line perspective as a Nurse battling the Corona Virus pandemic and what we can do to protect ourselves and others.
